Kirklees Council serves more than 440,000 residents across some of Yorkshire's largest towns and communities. Like all councils, we're facing increasing demands, financial pressures and changing expectations from residents. Technology, data and digital services will play a critical role in how we respond.

We're now looking for a Head of Digital, Data and Technology (Chief Digital and Data Officer) to help lead that agenda.

About the role

This is a newly created role bringing together our existing technology and data capabilities into a single service.

You'll lead a substantial team, help complete the redesign of the new service and shape the council's approach to digital, data and technology over the coming years. You'll also play a leading role in developing and delivering our emerging Digital Strategy.

We're looking for someone who can build on strong foundations. Our infrastructure, support services and cyber capability are well established. The opportunity now is to strengthen our wider digital capability, make better use of data, improve how technology supports services and help create a more digitally confident organisation.

The role combines strategic leadership with practical delivery. You'll need to build relationships across the council, influence senior stakeholders, support organisational change and ensure that essential technology services remain reliable and resilient.

This is a role with visibility and influence. You'll work closely with senior leaders, engage with elected members and help shape work that is central to the council's future efficiency, effectiveness and sustainability.

About you

You might already be leading a digital, data or technology function, or you may be looking for the next step in your career.

What's most important is that you can combine technical credibility with strong leadership and organisational influence. We aren't looking for a specialist in every discipline. We are looking for someone who understands how digital, data and technology can support organisational priorities and who can bring people with them.

You will be comfortable working in a complex environment, building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and communicating technical issues in a clear and practical way.

Whether your experience comes from local government, the wider public sector, housing or another large organisation, you'll be motivated by the opportunity to shape a newly integrated service and leave a lasting mark on Kirklees.
